One week before we leave on our trip to El Salvador - Jane Kortz

As I woke this morning my thoughts turned to, “Wow it is exactly one week before the Paz Salud, Peace Health General Medical Mission departs Seattle, WA for San Salvador, El Salvador”.  There is excitement and much anticipation these few days prior to leaving.  I happily accepted the volunteer role of photojournalist for the 2010 Mission and I’m almost packed and ready with my camera equipment.  Today finds me with the challenge of packing a small carry-on bag containing essentials for ten days.

Our Mission trip this year will take us to San Juan Opico, just north of San Salvador where the clinic will be set-up.

We have our itinerary and taking a look at the schedule our days will be very full.  Sister Susan Dewitt, CSJP has told us on her blog, http://www.lapazdesusan.blogspot.com/  the community of San Juan Opico is very excited we are coming.  I’m sure everyone going on this Mission trip is looking forward to meeting with the Salvadoran adults and children seeking medical care.

As I watched a beautiful sunrise early this morning from my home, a crimson red sky came over the snow peaked Cascades.   I often say “All the mountains are out” on days like this.  I thought about the people of El Salvador we will meet and how exciting it is to be participating in this Medical Mission. 

I first visited El Salvador in June 2004 with another group from Seattle.   I’m looking forward, with delight, to retuning and helping any way I can to support the important work the doctors and nurses from the Pacific Northwest.  My friend Susan Dewitt has been living in El Salvador for over a year and I’m looking forward to seeing her and the place she calls home these days.

With the beautiful sunny day we are enjoying today it is a little easier organizing “warm weather” clothing.  So now it’s off to my trip preparation.  This will be an adventure!  For more information on Paz Salud and future posting about the 2010 Medical Mission visit their website http://www.pazsalud.org/
